"Star of David" is the result of almost three years of work, creative research, discussions, breakthroughs and discoveries. Step by step, page by page and chapter by chapter Ludmila Leventhal and I have been approaching the crucial goal…

"Star of David" is the product of an almost thirty years study of thoughts, diary entries, letters, notes. This book was conceived by Ludmila back when she was living in Ukraine. She wanted to tell of her father, Alexander Grigoryevich Leventhal; about the challenges he had experienced; the hardships he went through. She wanted to tell about her family whom she had never seen, but whom she knew so well through her father's stories. But most importantly, she wanted to reiterate what had happened in her native land so recently, so that people would remember their history and wouldn't forget the truth, no matter how bitter.

The book is composed in vivid, vibrant and colorful writing style, so it does not read like dry documentary prose. Even so, the events described in the book are all real. Because they are based on the recollections of the main character, some of the names of people and places and details are incomplete or are absent altogether: sometimes memory would fail (I'd like to note here that one can only envy Alexander Grigoryevich Leventhal's memory, who turned 86 at the time this book was published).

For me "Star of David" is, first of all, the life story of this amazing man; the tale of overcoming something insurmountable, achieving something unachievable, fulfilling something impossible. Alexander Leventhal's life story teaches courage, endurance, guts; it teaches to never give up no matter what, but fight to the end and win.
Participation in the creation of this book has become an important chapter in my life. I believe in its lucky star, in this book winning readers' hearts, if for no other reason than the deepest respect and admiration for the fortitude, courage and unbending spirit of Alexander Grigoryevich Leventhal.

I'd like to wish Alexander Grigoryevich splendid health, and long and happy years surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and I wish enormous creative success to Ludmila Leventhal. I know for sure that this is not the author's last book; there are new creative researches and successes awaiting her in the future.

With best wishes to all the readers,
